F1: Verstappen wins from 14th in Belgium

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen crushed the rest of the field to take a stunning victory after starting 14th in the Belgian grand Prix.

The World Championship leader was in a league of his own as he fought up quickly from 14th on the grid to take a firm lead by lap 18 and disappear into the distance.

Verstappen was a second a lap faster than Red Bull team mate Sergio Perez who secured a one-two victory for Red Bull.

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton’s first lap mischiefs with Alpines’ Fernando Alonso saw him retire from the race while Alonso finished 5th behind Hamilton’s team mate George Russell.

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz held of George to take third place. Sainz’s teammate Charles leclerc finished 6th behind Alonso after taking a 5 second time penalty for speeding in the Pit Lane.

Verstappen’s ninth win in 14 races with just 8 to go, consolidated his 93 points lead in the World Drivers Championship (WDC).
