- France’s President, Emmanuel Macron has revealed what he told forward, Kylian Mbappe after France’s 2022 FIFA World Cup final defeat to Argentina on Sunday.
Mbappe scored a hat-trick against Argentina to become the first player to do so in a World Cup final since Sir Geoff Hurst.
But the Paris Saint-Germain star still ended up on the losing side as Argentina became three-time world champions in Qatar.
Asked what he told Mbappe, Macron told newsmen: “Kylian Mbappe is a great player and I reminded him of that.

“I told him he’s only 24 and he was the World Cup’s top scorer. He has won a World Cup before; he’s been to another final.
“I was as sad as him but I told him he had made us all very proud, and in the end, we lost a football match, we came so close. That is how it is in sport.”
The President added: “We were very far off at the end of the first half. There have been comebacks like that, but it is rare in the history of football.
Mbappe finished the tournament with eight goals and two assists, seeing off competition from Lionel Messi, Olivier Giroud and Julian Alvarez.
The Argentine’s Messi had the last laugh, as his country eventually won 4-2 on penalties.
Recall that Macron watched on from inside the Lusail Stadium and was seen consoling Mbappe as Argentina celebrated their World Cup triumph.
