How Naira Scarcity is Frustrating our Love Lives – Abuja Residents Lament
By Aisha M. Abisola
Some Abuja residents have blamed President Muhammadu Buhari and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele, for their boring and unexciting love life in recent months.
The Abuja residents who spoke to ECONOMY ON THE STREET anchor, Rahma Oladosu, said the unending cash crunch caused by the naira redesign policy of the federal government has denied them resources to use in expressing affection to their loved ones.
Some of them added that they could not even mark the last Valentine Day due to the absence of cash.
“It was boring, you know. It was the worst Valentine’s ever,” one of the respondents, who preferred anonymity, said.

Another one who also craved anonymity described this year’s valentine as “unenjoyable”, saying that everywhere she went, there was no cash available in the banks or with POS operators.
One also stated that the lack of cash has caused strife in one of his relationships, lamenting the fact that the naira scarcity made it impossible to purchase anything for his partner.
Others who were interviewed bemoaned how the naira scarcity has impacted their quality of life as things that they used to be able to acquire were now impossible tasks.
The disgruntled citizens further called on the Federal Government to intervene and end the continuous suffering of the masses.
They said many have fallen on hard times due to this, and situations that could be resolved easily on a normal day are now ten times harder as many places refuse online transactions.
