Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, popularly known as DJ Maphorisa, is a well-known disc jockey in South Africa. He was detained after an alleged attack on his actress girlfriend Thuli Phongolo.
After the domestic dispute at her Sandton flat in Johannesburg, Phongolo called the police and reported the Amapiano music producer.
The Legacy actress said during her interview at the Sandton police station that the altercation began when she questioned her Maphorisa about their contentious disagreement from the previous evening.
Phongolo, a club DJ as well, claims her partner became hostile and slapped her in the face.
“On Sunday 2023/5/7 at about 12pm, I was at my place of residence with my boyfriend, Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, better known as DJ Maphorisa.
“I confronted him so that we can talk about our argument, which happened the previous night during his gig.
He became aggressive and started to punch me with his fists on my chest.
“He held me and took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck” Phongolo made the declaration.

The woman stated that her boyfriend snatched her phone at some point during the assault but later returned it. When she arrived at the police station, she launched a charge of domestic abuse against him after calling her manager, who drove her there. On a charge of assault, DJ Maphorisa is scheduled to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
