Kylian Mbappe has stunned Paris Saint-Germain after informing them he will not extend his contract beyond 2025, a move that may now force the club to sell him.

The forward’s deal is set to expire at the end of the 2023-24 campaign but with PSG unwilling to let him walk away for free, he could be offloaded this summer.

According to L’Equipe, Mbappe informed PSG figures of his decision in a letter.

The fresh terms the 24-year-old penned last summer run initially for two years, with the option of a further year included. However, it has now emerged that Mbappe does not intend to remain at the Parc des Princes beyond the final year of his deal.

As a result, he is poised to enter one last campaign with the Ligue 1 champions.

The Telegraph report that Mbappe left PSG reeling and in a state of shock after informing the media of his decision before telling the club.

Should he decide against triggering the extra year, the superstar will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a club outside France from next January.

PSG splashed out around £155million to sign Mbappe from Monaco in 2018 and may now be contemplating cashing in to make some form of return on their investment.

Real Madrid have held a long-standing interest in the France international and again appear to be the standout choice for the striker as they hunt for a new forward.

Mbappe made a dramatic U-turn in 2021 after an approach from Madrid in 2021 and had been expected to join Los Blancos when his contract expired a year later.

He opted to stay at PSG, though, and agreed the extension that takes him to 2024.

The bombshell development is said to have come as a surprise to the club, who had been planning to mould their future plans around their country’s talisman.

Indeed, contract talks between both parties are thought to have progressed well, with Mbappe reportedly even informing PSG he intended to sign a new contract.

It is said Mbappe had until July 31 to make a decision over the extension but handed PSG his notice a month and a half before the deadline, leaving them stunned.

The New York Times claim that if PSG field offers for Mbappe, they may fetch a price in excess of £160m and potentially even over the current world record fee.

The prolific frontman scored 29 goals in 34 league appearances last season, securing his fifth Ligue 1 title during his stint at PSG and his sixth overall.

Extraordinarily, PSG may well lose Lionel Messi, Mbappe and Neymar all in the same summer. Messi will join Inter Miami while Neymar could move to Saudi Arabia
