Jaiye Kuti, a well-known Yoruba Nollywood actress, has responded to those who have criticised her for belittling older actors who are pleading with their fans for money.
In a video that has been going viral online, Jaiye Kuti expressed his disgust with the recent practise of experienced actors pleading with fans online for money and presents of cars.
She argues that this behaviour tarnishes the Nollywood industry and harms its reputation, emphasising how urgent it is for movie stars to buck the trend.
She emphasised that Nollywood is not a pension-based industry and that actors should plan for the future while they are still young and productive.
She also hinted that some of the actors pleading for support online may have irresponsibly blown their money when they were younger.
However, there were conflicting responses to Jaiye Kuti’s outburst online since some coworkers thought it was rude.

In response, the actress maintained in another video that sick performers can ask for help online and added that those who are healthy should stop going door-to-door begging.
She uttered:
“I don’t just talk anyhow, people don’t understand what I am saying. I read over 500 comments and I am addressing those who misunderstood my message.
“I didn’t say we should use social media to help people or that people should come out to ask for help, but my message is for those who want to spoil the industry’s name with begging.
“I have also used my social media to seek help for people, and they have sent messages appreciating me.
“I am talking to those who feel entitled to getting help because others are getting help from Nigerians. I told two of those veterans not to come out and beg for help so that when they are in dire need, they wouldn’t lack helpers.
“Let only those who are sick, seek help, but those who are healthy, they should stop coming out to beg”.
