The Nigerian female football team (Super Falcons) have advanced to the round of 16 (knockout stage) in the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup taking place in Australia and New Zealand.
The Falcons played a goalless draw with Ireland on Monday to book a place in the second round.
The Falcons therefore took 2nd in Group B with 5 points garnered from two draws and one win.

Prior to the game, Nigeria topped Group B with four points and a goal difference ahead of Canada.
Australia topped Group B with six points after thrashing Canada 4-0 to guarantee a place in the last 16.
The best attempt of the game for Nigeria was from striker Asisat Oshoala in the 14th minute but the shot went wide.
They are now the first African team to qualify for the round of 16 at the ongoing tournament.
