PROFILE: Ali Nuhu; Nollywood Pride, Kannywood King and Ever Constant Northern Star

It is one thing to be talented. It is another thing have the attitude, brilliancy and grace to be a big-time celebrity and also achieve fame and fortune. But in the very competitive world of entertainment, to remain consistent over the years requires a lot work. In fact, it is pure genius to be in the faces of the ever-demanding Nigerian audience for over a decade.

That is why even with the rampant success of Nollywood talents taking the world by storm with blockbuster movies rampaging the Box Office, Ali Nuhu has continued to dominate our screen like the ever constant Northern star that he is.

He didn’t just become a huge success story overnight. He has been well bred and he has climbed the ladder of glory gradually.

This talented thespian was born on the 15th of March 1974 to Mallam Nuhu Peloma and Fatima Kaderam and had his childhood and secondary education in Kano.

In 1997, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Jos and in 1998, he did his mandatory NYSC in Ibadan, Oyo State.

During his undergraduate years, he had his first film audition and started acting fully in the Hausa movie industry popularly referred to as Kannywood by it’s viewers with the film Abin Sirri Ne.

He has so appeared in a number of big-budget films in Kannywood such as Wasila, Mujadala, and Sangaja. These films aided him in establishing himself in Kannywood as a veteran.

To underscore his genius and creativity, he has also joined the Nollywood mainstream and remained relevant there for about a decade now. He featured prominently in some Nollywood blockbusters such as Banana Island Ghost, Diamonds in the Sky and recently Shanty Town where he played the role of Chief’s Lawyer.

He studied Film Production and Cinematic Arts in the University of California and attended training programmes at the Asian School of Media Studies in New Delhi. He also took part in numerous film festivals, including the Zuma Film Festival and the Pyongyang International Film Festival.

Due to his impressive success in Kannywood, he has been regarded to be the most advertised actor with companies such as Globacom Nigeria, Royco, Pepsi, Blue Boat, Champions Milk, Cherie Noodles etc all having him as the face of their respective brands. He also served as the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC’s, “Face of the Consumer” in 2017.

Nuhu is a renowned actor, businessman and philanthropist who has won several national and international awards.

The celebrated entertainer is currently married to Maimuna Garba Abdulkadir and the union is blessed with two beautiful kids.

His enviable success story has been a source of inspiration to all and sundry especially northern youths who are also involved in the arts and are doing very well due to his mentorship. He will continue to be celebrated for what he has done for the culture and for the industry.
