Murja Kunya, a well-known and contentious TikToker in Kano state, got into a heated argument with her attorneys after she resumed using social media even though her bail terms forbade it.

Barrister A.U. Hajji, Kunya’s head of legal team, has openly stated his displeasure with her flagrant disobedience of the court’s directives.

Until her trial is over, the court has expressly forbidden her from actively publishing anything on social media.

One of the main requirements of her bail issued by Justice Saminu in March 2024 was this restriction.

Kunya continued to post on social media in spite of this, which infuriated her attorney.

Hajji said, “I am disappointed in her,” in an interview with a local radio station. “I never imagined she would disobey a court order, not after all the hardships and trials of her trial. I called her bail sureties as soon as I saw the films online and requested them to warn her. Ignoring a court order is a bad idea. I genuinely didn’t believe she would act in this way.

“You can check my timestamps, I didn’t post a single video until May 16th, and it was my lawyers who assured me it was okay to post but to ensure I adhere to certain conditions,” she explained.

“During my trial, I only attended court twice; afterward, it was my lawyers who attended, so I didn’t doubt them when they said everything was cleared.”

In addition, Kunya disclosed that she is now abroad, citing continuous complaints about her actions from Kano residents.

“As soon as I was freed, I departed. The Kano people don’t like what I do, so I decided it would be best to leave the nation altogether. However, I will continue to publish stuff from wherever I am,” she remarked, declining to say where she was now or if the change was permanent.

In March 2024, Murja Kunya was granted bail for N500,000.00, subject to the provision of two trustworthy sureties, one of whom had to be a relative and the other to be the owner of a landed property in the Kano municipality.

Her detention began on February 20, 2024.
