Celebrating Omeiza Ajayi, A Quintessential Journalist Of Immeasurable Repute

By Ozumi Abdul

It is that day, a happy day that the lord has made, a day when all angels of heaven celebrate and rejoice. A day we humans on earth, especially those of us who are of Ebira extraction celebrate our very own.

Today we celebrate the life and times of a quintessential journalist, Omeiza Ajayi, a highly revered and venerated son of Ebiraland, whose footprints are indelibly etched on the sands of time. In fact, it is undoubtedly imperative to extol his virtues, because Omeiza is not just a name, but a brand synonymous with excellence, humility, and kindness.

Omeiza is more than just a journalist; he is a mentor, a friend, and a beacon of hope. His life embodies the true essence of humanity. His kindness knows no bounds, and his humility is infectious. To meet Omeiza is to experience the warmth of human connection.

I recall with vivid nostalgia, and immeasurable gratitude, a period when I found myself at a crossroads professional, having relocated from the vibrant city of Lagos to the ancient city of Kano.

Then the daunting task of re-establishing myself in the northern media space loomed large. It was during this my professional challenging phase that I reached out to Omeiza Ajayi, seeking guidance. To my amazement, he responded with unparalleled enthusiasm, going beyond the call of duty to connect me with bureau chiefs of some leading newspapers. This singular act of kindness opened doors that would later lead to fulfilling professional engagements.

This Omeiza Ajayi’s very generosity of spirit remains an invaluable asset, and his impact on my career since then is immeasurable. Such acts of generosity and support are the hallmarks of Omeiza’s character and will forever remain etched in my memory.

Having said this, It is however a paradox that a man of Omeiza’s caliber, with his vast experience, deep understanding of the media landscape, and unwavering commitment to excellence, is yet to be fully harnessed by the Kogi State government to pilot its media activities. His absence from the Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s media team, especially as his Chief Press Secretary is a colossal loss. His charisma, coupled with his journalistic prowess, would have undoubtedly elevated the state’s media output, and endear favorable image-making of the governor to unprecedented heights.

As we Ebiras would proverbially say, it looks like our banana tree is standing deep inside an ocean of water, while its stem remains stunted without growth because of lack of water; or lacking a lot amidst having a lot. What a paradox.

Well away from this, let me celebrate my Oga first on his special day, and defer this matter to another day for discerning Mathias to handle.

As we celebrate Omeiza Ajayi’s birthday today, we extend our heartfelt prayers for his continued success and development. May this new year bring him even greater accomplishments and joy.

Happy birthday Oga Omeiza Ajayi. God bless your new age.
