Can Davido’s Collabo With Angelique Kidjo Earn him First Grammy Award?

Nothing could be giving Nigeria’s pop star Davido sleepless nights more than winning the Grammy award next year.

Having been blessed with all the good things of life, including attaining global heights in his career, Davido definitely has his eyes on the world’s biggest music award.

During the last edition, the ‘Timeless’ crooner got three nominations in the Best African Music Performance Category, the Best Global Music Album and the Best Global Music Performance Category.

But despite high expectations from fans, Davido returned to the country disappointed.

Nonetheless, Davido may stand the chance of kissing the Grammy trophy if his latest collaborative effort with legendary Beninese singer, Angelique Kidjo is anything to reckon with.

The song, ‘Joy’, which dropped yesterday on all digital platforms is expected to deliver the desired grammys to Nigeria’s top Afrobeats star.

Announcing the release of the single during the week, the five-time Grammy Award winner, Angelique Kidjo, said that she resonates with the music title and that joy is who she is.

She extended her gratitude to Davido and hopes that the song can bring the world together for a moment of joy. Davido equally acknowledged the collaboration, as he took to his Instagram page to express his gratitude for working with the iconic songstress.

“It was an honor working with the legend @angeliquekidjo on ‘Joy,’ he wrote on IG.

Meanwhile, like Kidjo’s previous award-winning songs, “Joy’ will not be an exception. The seductive single, written, performed, and produced by Angélique Kidjo in Ghana is another icing on the cake.

Music pundits described the collaboration as ‘a unique musical experience, combining Davido’s energetic Afrobeats style with Kidjo’s rich and soulful world music.

“Joy” is not their first collaborative effort, as they had previously worked together on ‘Na Money’, which was widely praised for its infectious rhythm and cultural significance. With “Joy” dropping yesterday, it signalled another groundbreaking collaboration that showcases the power of cultural exchange and musical innovation.
