Gwagwalada Residents Decry Poor Attitudes Of AEDC
Residents of Gwagwalada along Paiko Road from Passo, Abuja have raised the alarm over the attitudes of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in the area.
According to Benjamin Franklin, a member of one of the communities in the area, the company has deliberately refuse to provide strong electric poles which has led to some poles collapsing in the past causing total blackouts for quite some time.
“The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company AEDC have turned blind eyes on us. Not quite long, some of our electric poles came down due to wind and the rain because they were not strong.
They ended up replacing them with very tiny wood poles which are currently almost touching the ground; a clear sign of another power outage if nothing is done quickly”, he narrated.

Also, Mr. Matthew Abu added that it is rather disturbing how officials of AEDC are reluctant at identifying and fixing issues concerning their properties for better service provision and customers’ satisfaction.
The business man who complained vehemently stated that some of the electric poles on the verge of falling are rightly inside a rice farm; a dangerous situation which could lead to loss of live(s).
“You can see for yourself, these affected poles are within a rice farm. God forbid what if they finally collapse when the farmer or his children were on the farm?
We are sure they have monitoring team moving round for inspections but don’t know why they won’t fix this because one pole falling will end up dragging others with it and the entire area will once again be thrown to darkness.
They appeal to the power supplying company to quickly address the issue by replacing the affected wooden poles with concrete ones or stronger ones to avert any unfortunate and preventable occurrences.
All efforts to speak with the management of AEDC proved abortive after several calls, mail and messages sent by this medium on the matter were ignored.
