US Open: After 23 Grand Slams, Tearful Serena Williams Finally Bows out

Tennis legend, Serena Williams, broke down in tears early on Saturday as she expressed gratitude to her parents, Richard and Oracene, as well as her sister, Venus.

On the court of the ongoing 2022 US Open, after losing to Ajla Tomljanovic of Australia, Williams said, “Thank you daddy, I know you’re watching. Thanks mum! I want to thank everyone that’s been here, been on my side for so many years, decades, literally decades! It all started with my parents and they deserve everything. So I am very grateful to them. These are happy tears, I guess!”

To her older sister, she said, “I wouldn’t be Serena if there wasn’t Venus. So thank you, Venus. She’s the only reason Serena Williams ever existed.”

Before the US Open, Williams had revealed that she would be retiring soon after a record of 23 Grand Slams.
