Drogba is my Idol – Osimhen

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has potentially handed Todd Boehly and Graham Potter a boost in the anticipated fierce transfer tussle this summer as he admitted to wanting to emulate Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

Chelsea have struggled to break their apparent ‘striker curse’ in recent seasons, after expensive additions Romelu Lukaku, Alvaro Morata and Fernando Torres all failed to make the grade. Having found the back of the net on 25 separate occasions from 28 games in domestic and Champions League action, Osimhen’s displays have understandably alerted the interest of Europe’s heavyweights.

“And I’m really working so hard, we have a great squad, I think with the help of my teammates I can really be at that level.” The 24-year-old added he is yet to meet his inspiration, but is looking forward to the day he is able to do so.

“Yeah of course, I’m looking forward to meeting him one day, I haven’t met him yet,” he added. Osimhen previously spoke about how he idolised Drogba, who became one of the most revered African strikers in history, growing up.

“My childhood idol is Didier Drogba,” he told NFF TV. “When I scored against Chelsea. The feeling because I know a lot of my friends that are Chelsea fans and before the game they messaged that they don’t care if Chelsea beat Lille 5-1 or 5-2 as long as I score.

“They wanted me to actualise my dream and that’s one of the best moments in my career.”
