Nigeria’s global music influence received fresh international recognition as two Nigerians, Fela Anikulapo Kuti and Sade Adu, were named among the 2026 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

‎The honour marks a historic milestone for Nigerian music, placing two of the country’s most celebrated global icons among the world’s most influential performers.

‎Fela Anikulapo Kuti, widely regarded as the creator of Afrobeat, transformed African music with his fusion of traditional rhythms, jazz and funk. Beyond entertainment, he became a symbol of resistance, using music to challenge oppression, corruption and social injustice.

‎Sade Adu rose to global fame with her smooth vocals, timeless style and genre-defining sound that blended soul, jazz and pop. As lead singer of Sade, she delivered classics that earned worldwide acclaim and enduring commercial success.

‎Their induction underscores the growing recognition of Nigerian talent and the country’s long-standing contribution to world music.

‎For many observers, the moment is more than an award. It is confirmation that Nigerian artistry has helped shape the soundscape of modern music across generations.

‎By joining the Hall of Fame, both legends now take their place alongside some of the most revered names in music history, while opening wider doors for future African artists seeking global acclaim.
